University of Glasgow

Established in 1451, the University of Glasgow has always seen itself as a civic university, located firmly in its city, region and Scotland. Its alumni and former staff include eight Nobel Laureates and such figures as Adam Smith and James Watt. A member of the Russell Group of leading UK research universities, it is a World top 100 University and in the top 20 for Sustainability. The University employs over 8000 staff and enrols over 40 000 students, a third of whom are postgraduates.

The University consists of four Colleges, with the project team being located in the College of Social Sciences, School of Education, one of the largest Schools of Education in Britain.

The Scotland project team are drawn from different units within the School of Education, reflecting interests in international education policy and in post-school education and training. The project is affiliated with the School of Education’s Centre for Research and Development in Adult and Lifelong Learning (CRADALL) and the Glasgow Comparative and International Education Research group (GLACIER). The team are also members of the College’s interdisciplinary research network on Skills and Sustainable Livelihoods. The team has extensive experience in research and policy work on
vocational education and training. This includes past policy work with and for multilateral organisations such as UNESCO, OECD, ILO and national agencies and governments. They have conducted research projects and published on a range of countries, including Chile, China, India, Mexico and South Africa. Team members have also previously edited major journals in international and vocational education: Compare, the
International Journal of Educational Development, and the Journal of Vocational Education and Training.
